4-H Members Show Livestock at the Great New York State Fair

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County is pleased to announce livestock results from the New York State Fair. Youth in the Lamb and Hog Projects represented Chautauqua County with exceptional placings’ at The Great New York State Fair.

Branden is participating in the Sheep, Beef, Horse, Swine, and Public Speaking programs. This year Branden exhibited his lamb and pig at The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. Branden placed 7th in Senior Sheep Showmanship out of 25 contestants and 3rd in Open Senior Sheep Showmanship out of 17 contestants. His lamb also placed 4th in the Market Class. With his hog, Brandon was Senior Hog Showman Champion, Reserve Champion in the Heavy Weight Market Hog Class, and 2nd in the January Breeding Gilt class. In the open classes, Branden’s gilt was 2nd again, he was 3rd in the Heavy Weight Market Hog class, and 4th place Market Hog overall.  His Market Lamb placed 6th in open class.  Brandon also participated in the Empire Swine Youth Scholarship Contest and placed 7th overall.

Branden, Corinne, and Lydia participated in a hog obstacle race. Lydia placed 1st with a time of 53 seconds; Branden placed 2nd with a time of 55 seconds; and Corrine placed 3rd with a time of 59 seconds.

Corinne is participating in the Sheep, Swine, and Horse programs. This year Corinne exhibited her lamb and hog at The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. Corinne placed 6th in Junior Showmanship out of 12 participants. She was announced champion in the Junior Lead Line Showmanship out of six competitors. Her Market Lamb finished 6th place in the 4-H show and 7th in the Open Show. With her hog, Corinne placed Champion Novice Junior Showmanship and 4th place in the 4-H Market Hog Contest. In open class her hog placed 3rd in the Medium Weight class and 5th overall. Corinne also participated in the Empire Swine Youth Scholarship contest and placed 5th in record keeping, 2nd in knowledge review, 3rd in hog judging, and 14th  overall.

Lydia is participating in the Cloverbud and Horse programs. This year Lydia exhibited her lamb and her hog in Peewee Showmanship classes.

Max is participating in the Sheep, Swine, and Beef programs. This year Max exhibited his lambs at The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. Max placed 6th in Senior Showmanship out of 25 competitors. His lambs finished 2nd and 4th in the Intermediate Market Lamb Weight Division, 3rd and 4th in the Medium Weight Market Lamb Division, 2nd and 4th in the Cheviot Yearling Ewe Class, and 3rd in the Junior Ewe Class. In the Open Show, Max’s lambs finished 1st and 2nd in the Intermediate Market Lamb Class, 3rd and 4th in the Medium Weight Market Lamb Class, 4th and 6th in the Yearling Cheviot Class, and 4th in the Junior Cheviot Class. He also earned the title of Open Class Grand Champion Market Lamb!

Together Branden, Max, Corinne, and Lydia participated as a team for the Sheep Bowl Contest. They finished 5th place as a team.

Rachael is participating in the Poultry, Swine, Goats, Sewing, Sheep, and Nutrition programs. This year Rachael exhibited her lambs and hog at The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. Rachael placed 3rd in Novice Sheep Showmanship and 4th in Novice Sheep Halter Showmanship. Her lambs placed 5th and 9th in the Market Class, 2nd and 3rd in the Ewe Class, 2nd in the Yearling Ewe class, 1st in the aged Ewe class, and 8th in the Pair of Ewes Class. Rachael placed 3rd in Novice Hog Showmanship, and her hog finished 4th in the Crossbred Gilt Class, 1st in the Yorkshire Gilt Class, and 3rd in the Heavy Weight Market Hog Class. In the Empire Swine Youth Scholarship Contest, Rachael placed 4th in Herdsmanship, 3rd in Knowledge Review, 5th in Oral Interview, finishing 8th overall out of 21 participants.

Kamryn is participating in the Goats and Cloverbud programs. This year Kamryn exhibited her lamb in the Little Shepherd Halter Class, receiving the Cloverbud Participation Ribbon.

Tessa is participating in the Arts and Crafts, Conservation, Community Service, Horticulture, Nutrition, Fishing, Photography, Rabbit, Sheep, Swine, Clothing and Textiles, Recycling, and Public Presentation programs. This year Tessa exhibited her sheep and hogs at The Great New York State Fair.

Tessa and Rachael participated in the Livestock Skill-A-Thon contest and finished on the 4th place team. They also participated in the Livestock Judging Contest and finished on the 8th place team.
