Child and Family Opportunities Project, Schenectady County

Cornell Cooperative Extension Educators, in partnership with caseworkers at Schenectady County Department of Social Services, identify families with school age children in need of after school and/or positive youth development programming.  The Educators work with the family and youth to assess the youth’s interests and needs. They then find an affordable program for the youth to participate in and assist with securing transportation, if needed.  As a result of this program, there have been approximately 265 school-aged youth served in Schenectady County. These youth have participated in after school programs, summer camp or academic intervention programs to help them retain basic academic fundamentals.
